Soul Child

Soul child smile
Not your one woman crusade against
Body suits and butt cracks
Don’t scoff at the cross dressers in snapbacks
Just smile Soul Child, smile
And stretch to the sun,
Feeling warm in the light of day
Dance naked in any kind of light girl,
Sing the anthem of the stretch marked sistas
With a spring and a jiggle
Not a bump and grind
Not yet anyway
Smile Soul Child Smile
Let it out from your toes
Make it hit the rafters
Release a moan of joy
Make it the sound of the light hearted
Make it a challenge to the newly departed
Winter of your discontent
Smile soul child
Feel the breeze caress you
Follow it for a while
Then stop and see, touch, smell, taste
Experience the experience
And drink in the freedom
Of flying by the seat of your not quite size 16
Twirl and sing
Dance girl dance
Speak with your body what your soul is thinking,
Make it audible to the eyes and legible to the heart
Paint it across the sky with your smile
Soul child
